Aquabox Rotary Charity

At our Club Meeting of the 13th November Colin Lloyd a Trustee and Treasurer of the Rotary Charity Aquabox was presented with a cheque for £565.00 being the proceeds from the recently held evening at Riddings Community Centre. When 100 people were entertained to an evening of Sea Shanty Songs and tales of the sea by the Stormy Weather Boys.

Colin gave an update as to where Aquabox filters have recently been sent for example to Bangladesh, Nepal and the Caribbean Islands and said that the £565.00 will help to replace these boxes for the next humanitarian crisis, where they will be needed.

Have you ever wanted to help others in your local community but don’t know really where to start? You don’t want to join lots of charities because you feel it will be too time consuming?

Here at Alfreton Rotary Club we get involved in a wide variety of projects not only locally but nationally and internationally too, some projects we all get involved and others maybe just a few members are needed, it all depends on what we are doing and who can help!

We all do what we can when we can,

Everyone joins Rotary for different reasons and for that reason we are a diverse group of volunteers, from our 40’s to our 80’s, working or retired ladies and gentlemen.

By coming along to a meeting there is no commitment to join us all you are doing is seeing if its fit for you and your life.

Celebrating the Clubs 79th Birthday

The Club members together with guests celebrated the 79th anniversary of their charter with a dinner and entertainment by the ‘Yester Year’ singing group at Riddings Community Centre on the evening on the 4th of September 2017.

Speaker Yolanda Ride

Guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Alfreton on the 14th August 2017 was Yolanda Ryde from Else Solicitors in Burton on Trent.

Yolanda is Rotarian at the Rotary Club of Etwall and Hilton.

Yolanda spoke at length about the changes to legislation in reference to Wills, Probate, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Inheritance Tax.

Many pitfalls that can be experienced when things go wrong or are not drafted correctly were discussed at length.

It was a very informative session and Roger Stevenson thanked Yolanda for her presentation.
