At our Club Meeting of the 13th November Colin Lloyd a Trustee and Treasurer of the Rotary Charity Aquabox was presented with a cheque for £565.00 being the proceeds from the recently held evening at Riddings Community Centre. When 100 people were entertained to an evening of Sea Shanty Songs and tales of the sea by the Stormy Weather Boys.

Colin gave an update as to where Aquabox filters have recently been sent for example to Bangladesh, Nepal and the Caribbean Islands and said that the £565.00 will help to replace these boxes for the next humanitarian crisis, where they will be needed.

Here at Alfreton Rotary Club we get involved in a wide variety of projects not only locally but nationally and internationally too, some projects we all get involved and others maybe just a few members are needed, it all depends on what we are doing and who can help!

We all do what we can when we can,

Everyone joins Rotary for different reasons and for that reason we are a diverse group of volunteers, from our 40’s to our 80’s, working or retired ladies and gentlemen.

By coming along to a meeting there is no commitment to join us all you are doing is seeing if its fit for you and your life.

The Sleigh on its first outing transporting Santa to The Pisley Village Christmas Fair

 

After much hard work, it’s ready for the off.

Look out for Santa in his new sleigh in and around Alfreton this Christmas.

 

On Friday the 20th of October an audience of one hundred had a fun evening at Riddings Community Centre being entertained by the ‘Stormy Weather Boys’ who gave amusing back ground stories to the sea shanty songs they were singing.

The evening raised £565.00 for the Rotary Charity ‘Aquabox’.

At the clubs meeting on Monday 18th September a cheque for £1090. was presented to a representative of the Royal Derby Hospital Macmillan Unit being the proceeds from the Clubs annual Golf Day held at Ormonde Fields Golf Club on the 1st of June 2017

The Club members together with guests celebrated the 79th anniversary of their charter with a dinner and entertainment by the ‘Yester Year’ singing group at Riddings Community Centre on the evening on the 4th of September 2017.

The Rotary Club of Alfreton organised a Charity Golf day for the Derby Royal Hospital Macmillan Centre.

A great day was had by all and we raised £1090.00 for a very worthy cause.

Guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Alfreton on the 14th August 2017 was Yolanda Ryde from Else Solicitors in Burton on Trent.

Yolanda is Rotarian at the Rotary Club of Etwall and Hilton.

Yolanda spoke at length about the changes to legislation in reference to Wills, Probate, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Inheritance Tax.

Many pitfalls that can be experienced when things go wrong or are not drafted correctly were discussed at length.

It was a very informative session and Roger Stevenson thanked Yolanda for her presentation.
